Nature-inspired Pet Photography for Dog-devoted Families
Professional Pet Photographer based in Metro Detroit and Suttons Bay (travel available)

Hold on to what this feels like.
The love you share with your pet has a way of changing how you move through life, bringing more joy, more presence, and more appreciation for the simple moments that matter most.
These are the moments and feelings worth holding onto: the laughter, the everyday adventures, the quiet comfort, and the wonder woven through it all.
At my sessions I believe that pets can do no wrong. (The same goes for little humans.)
There’s beauty in the chaos, magic in the mischief, and grace in the quirks.
Sessions are designed to feel relaxed and joyful, giving your pets (and therefore you) the freedom to simply be themselves, zoomies, sniffs, wiggles and all.
Because this isn’t just about photos. It’s about holding onto your joy, your love, and this beautiful season of your story.

Capture Memories With Your Pup
Images of you and your dog is the pixie dust your home needs!

Custom Experience
We’ll plan a photo shoot customized to what makes you and your pup happy: Locations with water, trails through woods, open fields for action shots, etc.

Your Dog's Personality
Because I’ve worked with so many animals, I understand the nuance of their body language. Your photos will reflect your dog’s unique personality.

No Training Necessary
Our shoot will be all about your pup, regardless of how well trained they are. Even if they have to stay on a leash (which can usually be edited out), or don’t sit still, we’ll still get perfect photos!
Just remember – the pups can do no wrong!

You'll Look Good, Too!
You’re everything to your dog, and it’s important that you’re in the images together!
I’ll provide my style guide on what to wear and flattering ways to pose so you can relax, feel comfortable, and look your best!

Spoil Your Pup
I have lots of high-value treats to suit any diet. We start each shoot with a taste test to see which treats your pup loves most!
And, if food isn’t their thing, I have other toys and noisemakers to entice even the most shy pups.

Artwork To Decorate Your Home With Joy
I’ve combed professional labs and vendors from around the world to curate the best, most interesting products! Display your photos in style with everything from canvas prints to storybooks! Digital images also available.
I know what it feels like to realize I wasn’t in any photos with my dog.
When my heart dog Bentley was very sick, I realized I had beautiful photos of him, but I wasn’t in a single one.
In addition to worrying about him I was scared that I had missed my chance to capture our bond in tangible memories.
It was a devastating feeling and I don’t want anyone else to be in that same situation.
That experience had a profound effect on me and I completely changed my business and focus to include pets with their people.
Photos & Art Pieces in 3 Simple Steps!

Consult
We’ll meet via a video call and spend about 30 minutes chatting about your dog and what you’re looking for.
On the call, we’ll cover everything from your pup’s quirks to their favorite toys and treats.
We’ll make sure that we’re a good fit for each other (I’m not the right photographer for everyone) and if so, pick the perfect time and spot for your session.

Photo Shoot
I’ll send you a checklist of how to prepare for your Photo Shoot. Then, at your Shoot, I’ll guide you and your pup through everything!
You’ll both feel at ease with the camera, and we’ll create photos that capture those magic moments!

Reveal
Then, we’ll jump on another call, and I’ll reveal a curated gallery of images from your Shoot! (Have tissues ready for your happy tears!)
Together, we’ll select your favorites photos, and then choose the art pieces, from wall art to albums to displays, that suit your home and lifestyle.
Woof upon a time you were chosen by a dog….
Sharing a life with your dog is just like a fairy tale
Do you believe dogs are magic? I do!
The joy our dogs bring into our lives can’t be put into words. But we can show it through images and display it where you can see it everyday, let me help you.
Experiences
Most families begin with a custom Wonderland Session, a personalized experience designed around your story.
Many then return for Artisan Sessions to refresh their images each year, celebrate a new season, or capture the beauty of special locations like blooming peonies, lavender fields, or a holiday tree farm.
No matter which session you choose, this experience isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection, joy, and preserving what this season of life feels like. Pets and kids can do no wrong here. The wiggly, silly, beautifully imperfect moments are often the ones you’ll love most.

Happiness Guarantee
If you don’t love your images at your reveal, we’ll reshoot or your money back!

Hi! I’m Jennifer, the photographer behind Firefly Pet Photography.
And, of course, I’m the Chief Butler at home for the pups Bernie and Violet (featured), and our two kitties, Barney and Reggie (too busy plotting).
When I started my pet photography business it was originally to help animal rescue and to capture great images of people’s pets.
But then I almost missed out on getting photos with my heart dog, and I don’t want anyone to go through that.
So I completely changed my perspective and now it’s all about pets WITH their people. I want to help you hold on to what it feels like to be loved by your pet. Bonus if that’s in a gorgeous location.
I’ve had over 20 years of experience as a photographer, from my time working at pet rescues, to taking photos and raising thousands of dollars for animal charities around Metro Detroit every year.
When I’m not taking photos or scouting locations, I’m probably wandering around my garden (I’ve completed the MI Master Gardener program and am obsessed with flowers), wearing something Disney related, while sipping a glass of wine (most likely a NZ Sauv Blanc in the summer) and trying to keep Violet from eating all the tomatoes.
If you’ve ever thought of getting photos of you and your dog (all pets welcome, except spiders), now is the time! I’d love to work with you and create gorgeous artwork to decorate your home with joy.

Where Firefly Travels
Firefly Pet Photography proudly serves pets and their people throughout Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Lansing, with sessions available across Southeast and Mid-Michigan.
I also regularly travel Up North, including the Traverse City and Suttons Bay area (especially for magical winter snow and spring cherry sessions) as well as the surrounding Northern Michigan areas around Gaylord (autumn is my favorite time and I have some great fall foliage spots).
Each spring, usually in March/April, I head to Charleston, South Carolina for a limited number of seasonal sessions featuring beaches, gardens, and historic charm.
Wherever we meet, my goal is the same: to create a joyful, low-pressure experience that celebrates the wonder and whimsy of life with your beloved pup so you can hold on to what this feels like.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will you take photos of any other kinds of pets besides dogs?
I talk about dogs most of the time because that represents the majority of my clients. But, I’m happy to photograph any kind of pet (except spiders because they freak me out)
What if my dog needs to be on a leash?
Many dogs stay on leash for their photoshoot! Most leashes can be edited out; harnesses are more likely to remain in.
My #1 priority is the safety of your pet.
What if my dog is nervous around strangers, or not good with other dogs?
I’ve fostered over 100 dogs and cats, and so I’m used to all kinds of behavior!
I know of several locations that are off the beaten path; I can use lenses that allow me to stay further back than usual; and I’m happy to get shy dogs time to warm up and enjoy a little walk before the camera comes out.
We’ll discuss how to make your pup most comfortable during your Free Consultation.
Where do photoshoots occur?
Each photoshoot is a custom experience.
I meet with most clients in local parks or in their backyards. In-home shoots are also an option, but outdoors is preferred.
We’ll select the best location for you and your pup during your Free Consultation.
What if my dog won't sit still or isn't well behaved?
No worries!
I’m used to working with all kinds of dogs whose training is a little ruff around the edges. Plus, that’s part of what makes your pup unique!
It’s my job to make sure they look at the camera, and I have lots of ways of making that happen.
I also have lightning-fast gear, so all I need is a split second to get the perfect shot!
What should I wear to my photoshoot?
Prior to your shoot, you’ll get a guide featuring tips on what to wear (and what not to wear).
If you book a Looking Glass Session, I’ll work with you 1:1 (either virtually or in-person) to help you select your outfits.
What if I don't like being in photos?
Because you’re such an important part of your dog’s story, I strongly feel that you need to be in at least some of the photos.
There are lots of options to include you without making you the focus of the image. And, I’m happy to assist with posing and positioning to help you comfortable.
Do you photograph humans as well?
I’m happy to include photos of humans only from any of my pet portrait sessions and I love branding sessions for pet business owners, but I don’t take any non-pet related clients, sorry!
I don't live in Michigan, can you still photograph my pets?
I love to travel, and I offer sessions wherever I go.
Email jen@fireflypetphotography.com or check my Instagram highlight for my latest travel schedule.
And if there is an opportunity to combine several sessions, I’m happy to accommodate those requests.
